Kia Ora!

What the hell did I miss?!?!?   I go off the grid for 5 minutes and some kind of wierd “Fantasy Triproast” league is started on the site. Congrats to Jason on winning the first (and hopefully the last) match.  I do hear however, that FITFA (Fédération Internationale de Triproast Football Association) are looking into some kind of diciplinary action so a dodgy tackle in the second half.

So! New Zealand eh? Well after leaving Jay I spent about a week in Auckland with my friend Anna doing absolutely nothing.  I think I was pretty wiped out from the fun and games of Australia and enjoyed being back in a home as opposed to a  hostel.  It didn’t hurt that her housemates and neighbours were so friendly and welcoming.  I say I did nothing but when I think about it I actually got to do a lot of cool stuff. To name a few:

  • Involved in a scavenger hunt which included such activities as Sparkler Bomb, Beer Through Nose and Human A-Frame
  • Went to initiation day for new students at Auckland University and pretended to be a student again
  • Drunk “Mauri Stubbies” and watched the Kiwi Classic “Once Were Warriors”
  • Went camping with Anna’s flatmates and neighbours, borrowed an old tent, and woke up soaking

Got to see Jason again for a couple of days before he shot off to Fiji which was fantastic - although when I opened the door I thought he’d become a lumberjack because of his beard!

After dragging myself off the couch I got on my first Kiwi Experience bus and headed North to the Bay of Islands and above to the very tip of NZ. Within maybe half an hour of being on the bus I’d hit it off with a girl called Abbey and have now found a travel buddy for the rest of New Zealand! Lots of beautiful scenery as well as an afternoon of kayaking where the 2 of us got to spend some time on a deserted white sand island.  We also tried sand boarding which is great fun! Just on our way back down now and hopefully going to get to do some diving in the Poor Knights tomorrow which is meant to be up there in the top 10 in the world.

More to come soon as usual. In the meantime, check out one of the funniest and cleverest things I’ve ever seen.  It a piece of performance art called “Karaoke for the Deaf“.

More updates coming soon as usual.

Hei konā rā - See Ya!
