Orangutan-Tastic
Posted by: Jay AKA SugarDaddyHaving left Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (October, 13) we are now on the Malaysian side of the Island of Borneo in Kuching, the capital of the state province Sarawak.
Although a reasonably large city, Kuching comes complete with some rather impressive high rise buildings and the usual fast food outlet (Mc something and K something C), it has a quite spectacualr calmness and relaxing vibe about it.
Many of the streets are lined with palm trees, whilst the river running through the city only adds to the stunning ambience experienced.
Not only has Kuching been a delightful stay for us to date, it has also been the home of one of our highlights of the trip so far - a visit to see Orangutan’s.
Set in a government protected jungle site, the Semenggoh Rehabilitation Centre rehabilitates Orangutan who have been kept illegally or have not adapted to life in the wild.
We arrived at the centre promptly for the morning feed at 9 a.m. - a combination of papaya, banana and potatoes and watched the inhabitants munch on their fine feast of well prepared food.
The humane like animals, who swing about in surroundings similar to the wild ready for their re-housing later in life to surrounding jungles, ranged from young to old and male to female. We even saw some babies with their mothers too.
We are set to move on from Kuching are a relaxing day today sampling the local culture before heading north to Miri for a night before going into the country of Brunei. More fun awaits!
I hope everyone is well and enjoying life to the full.
Take care
Jay
