Quick update from the middle of China
Posted by: Jamie AKA PeskyHey guys,
We can’t access Triproast from this part of China, big Red has blocked the site. I’m currently writing this post hardwired in to an old soviet listening post left over from the cold war.
So we left Beijing and made our way to Wutai Shan, a town in the middle of 5 mountains with loads of buddhist temples scattered around. This sounds fantastic, except I don’t really remember much from the first time I was sick out the bus window on the way into the town. I do remember riding a horse up a mountain, puking next to a temple, and then catching a cable car down - that was one of my better days.
We’re now in Pingyao, a city with a beautiful Ming dynasty wall around it - supposedly the last of its kind in china.
So just quickly, some of my observations about real China:
- Walking sticks are not walking sticks - they are pointing or poking aids
- There is no such thing as privacy - why knock when you can enter
- Family run guesthouses often have a free chinese shouting service outside your door for your listening pleasure
Love you all.

That first bit made me laugh so much
I know you’ve been poorly but, researching about where you were I came across a travel writer’s account which included “Our bus swerved along a winding and treacherous road while several passengers were puking out the window”. It’s a good read if anyone wants more info: www.travelintelligence.net/wsd/articles/art_2319.html
Love to all you guys xx
News from Home
On June 21st, midsummer night, Lights Out London was an environmental event asking everyone to turn off all their lights from 9 – 10 p.m. An estimated 2 million light bulbs went out around the capital, saving about 750 MWh of electricity in just 1 hour – enough to run 3,000 televisions for a year. But what the organisers didn’t realise is that they no longer need to be concerned about carbon emissions in London because Jamie’s massive carbon footprint has left the UK!
The National Grid can’t understand why the demand for electricity has gone down so much since June 4th – they need only look at the electricity meter at Pesky’s house for the answer.
Hmmm - I thought Puking was somewhere in China until I read more of the blog…..
Keep up the good info - makes great reading
(PS Pesky’s Mum has obviously had an attack of wit…)
Hey you,
Sorry to hear you’ve been feeling rough, hope all the sickness has passed now. It was great to hear from you earlier and catch up on some of your gossip!!
The only gossip I have for you is that I have nearly persuaded Rob to add me to his car insurance, that’s right his Audi baby. Now I know it’s true love. And I’ve just finished writing reports, which has taken me the whole weekend,….hooray.
Love and hugs to you

I enjoyed the stick food that we found on the street. I really liked the spicy chicken sticks the best in Asia Cheap too!
I loved the street theater is the halls of the guesthouses and hotels reminded me so much of my place in Cambodia except we have a few more horns.
the sticks they make great giant toothpicks forgot to add that, a real nice benefit that.
