Same Same But….Older!
Posted by: Jason AKA Mr CanadaWow, now THAT was a party!
Having just awoken from a deep 4-hour sleep the ‘day after’, I’m surprisingly feeling on top of the world and full of energy after a quite brilliant day and night of birthday antics! So I’ve left the others sleeping and ventured into town to let everyone in on the goss!
Well the day began early with a trip to the forbidden Indiana Jones-esque jungle temple ruins in the morning….an hour or so of Indi-poses, snake-dodging and vine-swinging was succeeded by a lovely local Khmer lunch and a birthday nap…..shortly followed by a fun-filled early evening of t-shirt making! Yes, we donned home-made (or perhaps home-altered) ‘Same same but….(insert appropriate/inappropriate phrase here)’ tees for the night that was to come! For those of you who don’t know, ‘Same same but different’ is a local hawker-friendly phrase in these parts and you don’t go anywhere without hearing it! EVERYONE knows it and quite often it’s the only English some people can speak! Anyways, without digressing too much, the three TripRoasters with their two newly-initiated Canadian members Jenna and Caley (my long-lost sister) headed out for one of the best meals they’ve ever had! A very posh (yes of course we fit in!) restaurant just out of Siem Reap dished up some truly awesome lamb and beef fillets, sea bass, clams and ceaser salads and we all raved about it! Anyways, the night was still young and just getting started….a trip to the pumping Temple Bar was certainly on the cards and we arrived in the usual Tuk Tuk style donning our home-made tees! After quite an amusing run-down from an Essex-born expat on how to spot ladyboys, it wasn’t long before the markers were out and the funny phrases flowed! The pictures to follow will tell the messy story for themselves!
An awesome day and night, thanks everyone for putting it on and celebrating it with me - it wouldn’t've been the same without you….but I still can’t believe I’m 25 though! The guys (and girls I might add!) have been dishing it out to me all day and I’m sure that trend’s set to continue for at least 19 more days until Jay’s big day! Yes I’ve been on the wrong end of old person jokes ever since!
Thanks Mom and Dad for your messages which were very nice to wake up to and thanks to all the mums for your wishes! Sharon….a truly shocked Jay was seated next to me when I opened the e-card….but his eyes lit-up when he saw it was an Orangutan! Haha, thank you very much for it!
Well I can honestly say that was one of the best and most far-out of birthdays I’ve ever had - Siem Reap, Cambodia….same same but certainly different!
Love and thanks to all!
Jason
Wow, and I was worried you might wish you were back in UK for it! Sounds wonderful! And I can´t believe you´re 25 either! So that makes Jay´s big day on hte 20th then! love you all loads Jaytona Mom
A belated happy birthday to you Jason - I must be in a different time zone here….can’t wait to see the photo’s (or will they only be available on the adults only section of the site?)
Glad you liked the card Jason, could not resist it! Knew Jay would like it too. Glad you had a great birthday sounds amazing! Now yours to look forward to Jay, Spurs beating A….. would make a good present.
Anyway have fun and as always stay safe. Looking forward to pics. love and hugs. Sharon
Well, you’ll always remember your 25th, that’s for sure. You 2 old guys will have to look after the ‘baby’ of the group! It’s interesting that Jamie’s 3 close friends and travelling companions are all Virgos - you obviously balance his Aries. Shame pics wouldn’t upload - we’ll have to wait a bit longer to see your creative T shirts.
Just to give you some perspective on time, it’s back to school tomorrow
Safe Journey. xx
Hey there Jason - aka Jaytona,
Been following your blogs somewhat and enjoying every word you share of your experiences. It’s great to hear how you’re doing and the places you’ve been to sound soooo amazing! Glad to hear you’re feeling better now too. And a very happy, happy 25th b’day to you! (albeit belated).
take care & I’ll look forward to checking in again to see more tales of your travels. Love ‘ya kiddo, Aunt Laurie.
Great photos ‘Grasshopper’!
Watch where you sit and walk in those old ruins, snakes like to hang out in the rocks. Have you got the snake bite kit?
Not to worry, looks like your new Canuck mates are adding a bit of ’spice’ to the mix. They seem like they fit right in.
All’s well here, and you take care, be safe and “Keep your stick on the ice”.
And, “Grasshopper; The master is always above you to watch over you, in front of you to guide you, beside you to accompany you, and behind you to protect you!”
And I’m always with you.
Dad
25 years old , I can hardly believe it!
A belated happy birthday from British Columbia.
Rilla and I just spent a week in New York city. It was great, but I think pretty tame compared to your escapades. I am off to London next week. I’m sure your dad will have lots to say about your travels.
Take care, and hello to your shipmmates in exotic far away places. And keep the stories coming.
Photos are great-the orangs, Mount …, diving with sharks etc.
I really look forward to them. Spectacular settings and the hike up the mount was super. Be safe, Grasshopper. All’s well here. Laurie left today and Gil on monday so busy house. Say hello to everyone. Dad Hewer
