The Discovery of Black Gold!

Posted by: Jason AKA Mr Canada

It’s black. It lasts forever. It’s made available to the masses by large multi-national corporations. It’s worth a fortune in the west. It’s produced cheaply in the east. It has magical healing properties. There is a global shortage of it. When it spills it takes forever to clean up. And for some….lives depend on it.

What am I talking about? Well if it were oil I’ve discovered then this trip would certainly be very different indeed. No, quite the opposite in fact, for budget cutbacks have led me to extreme measures in the nutrition department.

Enter: MARMITE!

Call it what you will - Marmite, Vegemite, Yeast Extract, a God send; admittedly I used to appreciate a finely spread layer on a hot piece of toast from time to time….mainly when visiting friends’ houses for I must admit to never having purchased a jar before in my life and never having seen one in the pantry at home. But now I find myself buying large 300 gram jars of the stuff just to feed my addiction! My craving has led me to drop lumps of the stuff onto my economy store brand bread. Best of all, it’s cheap and bloody good for you! Apparently it instantly cranks up my daily Recommended Dietary Intake levels of B Vitamins! I am now permanently full of life and energy. Amazing stuff. So come on guys, jump on board the Marmite band-wagon! To the Js, I guarantee you will be soon!

Right, well that’d be that. I’m off to find the nearest Costco.

Marmite: You either love it….or spend a fortune without it.

Good to hear from you Jason - hope your travels are not too lonely. Funnily enough, we were talking about Marmite here in the UK just yesterday! Personally can’t stand the stuff, along with Twiglets - but I guess needs must :-)

    Keep safe

Hey Jason - at least someone is blogging! Good to hear from you but where are you and what did you think of NZ? Re marmite, even better if spread dairylea (or equivalent) underneath it. Hope all is good with you. Sue x

    Thanks everyone!

I am still in beautiful New Zealand for another couple of weeks!

Of course there’s much more to report but as I like to keep things simple I’m feeling a post coming on for after I leave….based on my record I should probably start writing that now….

You’ll hear all about it soon!

See, Jas leaves us and now he writes blog, eats marmite and sounds like he is having a good time.

We are a bad influence on the young Canuck, obviously.

    I remain in shock.

On a seperate note, me and the Pesky have just arrived back in Sydney - slightly humid and a little overcast but a fine 24 degrees celsius from Perth.

We spent a fantastic last week 30 minutes south in Fremantle and had an amazing few days, mainly of chilling and beaching it but we met some really, really great people and for the 1,456,000 time had “the time of our lives”.

It is now 8.20 a.m. here and when we arrived here at 7.10 a.m. they only had one bed before 10 a.m. (the check-out time for other guests) so I sent Mr Loberman to bed whilst I continue to drink coffee for the next couple of hours before my bed becomes free. Aint I nice?!

Anyway, I promise to write a blog soon, especially since the blonde one has done to with some distinction.

  7. Gravatar2 hours later, Susie L muttered

Jay - you’re a good friend - but guess you know that he needs much more sleep than you do - and is the coffee to keep you awake or to counteract a few farewell drinks last night?! Enjoy your last 2 days in Oz and look forward to the next blogs from both of you. Sx

Well, Jaytona, downunder seems to have turned your appetite upside down as well! Your skills as a new scribe seem to be blossoming so your solitary sojourn seems to have its benefits! Hope you saw my well wishes as triproast is officially now solo roast, so bless you all and take care! Email soon, okay!? Lots of love! P:S: Can you elaborate on the culinary joys to a little of the landscape you´re seeing!?
