Wrecking Crew
Posted by: Jamie AKA PeskyOnce again, the call of world famous diving was too much for me to pass up, so I nipped off for 4 days down to a place called Coron, an hour flight South-West of Manila. Coron is the location of a Japanese WW2 supply fleet which was sunk there by US Task Force 38. Although a pretty bad result for the Japanese at the time, this now makes for an excellent place for wreck diving.
Wreck diving is my favourite type of diving so this was a real treat for me. On one dive I was lucky enough to get a dive guide all to myself on a wreck called the Irako. I had dived the Irako only a couple of days before, so we went for a deeper, more challenging dive. As we squeezed into the ship at 42 metres and followed the propeller shaft into the belly of the wreck, the adrenaline pumped through my veins and I turned off my light for a few seconds to allow myself to absorb the pitch black around me.
I will definitely be visiting the wrecks of Coron again. Personally, nothing is more exciting or rewarding than wreck diving. There is something inherently interesting, almost intriguing, about exploring something underwater which has failed its sole design purpose - to stay above the water.
Fantastic - glad you finally found some diving that lived up to your expectations. Any photos? xx
Very emotive description - keep finding good things to do
